Switch

When you’re in front of a customer who is paying for a transaction, your credibility is squarely on the line. The purchase is complete and now the customer wants to pay and leave without being delayed or embarrassed at the last minute. The difference between a satisfied customer or a complaint may well be whether you simply rely on your service provider for credit services, or take destiny in your own hands and use in-house switch services. Midax has a 10 year proven record as one of the industry’s most reliable switching platforms, the foundation upon which our company was originally built.

Whether you are a chain wishing to regain control over your payments processing, or a wholesaler wishing to provide a payments service to your client stores, you will choose a switch over a payments interface because:

  • You want all payment methods integrated into your POS.
  • You want to retain your freedom to choose any POS type without having to change your payments engine.
  • You want to have freedom to move from one provider to another and to be able to add other external services at will.
  • You are tired of paying per record charges for service providers to maintain customer databases.
  • You desire more timely, accurate settlement.
  • You desire increased up time and the security of industry specific standards.

And you will choose Midax over other switch offerings because:

  • Midax has a broader range of function, with interfaces not just to every main POS and provider, but all man gas dispensers as well.
  • Midax has in-house payments options, such as gift card, charge card and check authorization as well as interfaces to unlimited 3rd party services.
  • Midax allows for in house payment methods to be enabled at the gas dispenser (pre-paid gas card. charge card, in house ACH card)
  • Midax is the only switch with integrated loyalty; including loyalty discounting at the pump.
  • The Midax Switch architecture if centralized configuration and database management with distributed routing makes Midax infinitely scaleable.
  • There are no 3rd party software products embedded into the Midax Switch. We have developed all the code in-house and will continue to do so. This allows us to customize the application to address the business needs of every retail chain.
  • Midax service and support is second to none.
  • Midax is the best bang for your buck.

Midax switch is America’s most flexible single source EFT routing solution, integrating all currently available internal and external processing payment processing types into one single integrated component.

We do this in principle by taking the native payment processing format out of the POS and applying business logic rules to said format to provide more sophisticated routing and processing options.

We interface in principle to the native POS protocol, thereby minimize on-going maintenance issues. Real time, Midax’s transaction handling takes that POS transaction format from the POS, converts it to Midax’s payments engine format. Inside the payments engine, we apply your business logic rules and enhance the protocol received from the POS, prior to converting transaction into the appropriate format a given third party needs (or, if the process is an in-house Midax transaction, the format Midax needs). The response from the 3rd party is similarly converted through the Midax payment engine back into the message format the POS expects to see. The Midax payments engine in the middle adds the intelligence.

The business logic that you determine is configured in the Midax payments host and then downloaded into the in-store executable code, which typically resides in the POS controller, thus eliminating a principle source of failure at store level. (Midax also supports multiple instances of switch routing at the store, so if you have backup servers there, Midax can equally reside on each of them.) Routing of transactions occurs thus locally, which reduces another potential source of failure: the network. The local executable also copies all outgoing and incoming messages to the Midax EFT host database, facilitating one common source for settlement, transaction logging and processing.

By structuring the solution in this way, we have chain-based, not just store-based EFT management. Consequently both the provider and the POS component can be separately swapped out without regard to the other. Midax can also support multiple POS and multiple provider interfaces on the same server. This gives you the ability to have one controlling switch application and a free choice of provider and POS, and migrate in a controlled manner from one to the other.

In addition, we also provide the backbone for the most sophisticated offline processing engine available today. The in-store executable includes offline processing capability that consists of 2 basic types:

1) Where we know the outstanding credit line or card balance, such as gift card or check authorization, with each transaction, the Midax EFT host broadcasts constantly a net change record to every in store processor, so that in each in-store database, there is a current accurate customer record.

2) Where we don’t know that current limit, for example with a generic credit card, we copy the details of each card transaction to every in store processor and allow the chain to use that history dynamically to generate an individual offline limit on the fly. (e.g. if 8 of the last 10 transactions on this card we approved, approve the current transaction to an amount, which is the average of the last 10 transactions). This ensures each customer has an individual offline limit, which is far more appropriate than a crude offline floor limit that applies to every customer.

Moving from online to offline processing and back again is also dynamic. Midax constantly monitors the network and if it sees a store has gone offline, that store is changed to offline processing without manual intervention and the POS is pointed to the local database for authorization. Midax then creates a local store and forward file, which it transmits to the Midax EFT host when comms are restored. The Midax EFT host then force posts the offline transactions and restores all in store databases to the current status.

Midax is certified will all major 3rd party providers for debit, credit and EBT. In addition, with Midax, you can have third party services, such as ACH service providers, Blackhawk, 3rd party check, student payment card payment systems, phone card and other external services, all routing in different formats to different addresses, while using Midax chain-internal payment systems, like gift card, charge card and check authorization.

Midax also allows a wholesaler or an affiliation of chains to share a common switch, for example to enable common check files or allows a banner group gift card to be bought in one chain and tendered in another, with full accounting reconciliation and settlement.

Midax has embraced CISP/PCI certification and gone beyond the standards required to provide levels of security in both communications channels and database storage that greatly exceed those laid down in the VISA documentation.

At Midax, Inc, we have made the strategic decision to develop all our own code, so that we remain in full control of our environment. This not only allows us to correct any bug, but it also enables us to customize the application to suit the individual requirements of our customers, whether that is a new technology front end, a new interface.
